Hello!, I’m Cathy, the heart and soul behind Cathy’s Canines, a personal and dedicated dog training service.
Welcome to the vibrant world of dog training in Phoenix, where the sun shines bright and the tails wag even brighter! As a sole dog trainer, I understand that finding the right dog trainer is not just about teaching your furry friend to sit or stay; it's about embarking on a journey of mutual understanding and respect between you and your pet. In the sprawling city of Phoenix, where every dog owner's needs vary as much as the breeds of their pets, I stand out as a beacon of expertise and passion in the field of dog training.
Raising kids and dogs, it became very apparent that dog training was necessary. Having rules, boundaries and limitations keep some sort of sanity in the home and throughout the years, I saw that dog training was not just beneficial to have a balanced home, furniture and shoes still intact, but created such a bond with my dogs that the trust and respect achieved through dog training made for such an amazing relationship.
Whether you're a first-time pet parent or an experienced dog owner, my dog training classes and methods are designed to cater to the individual needs of your pet.
As you navigate the world of dog training in the Phoenix area, you'll find that choosing the right dog trainer is crucial. A great dog trainer doesn't just teach commands; they delve into the science of dog psychology, understanding the root causes of your dog's behavior. At Cathy's Canines, I am passionate and dedicated to making a positive impact on the lives of dogs and their owners and I promise you'll have a great experience whether we are doing group training classes, one-on-one training, or in-home dog training lessons at your home.
For me, it is the most rewarding job when I see the dog become part of the family!

Dog Training Philosophy Used by Cathy's Canines
Embracing unique Training Methods
At Cathy's Canines, I believe in communicating with your dog on their level when it comes to training methods. My dog training classes teach you how to do just that to achieve a well behaved dog. My gentle dog training techniques (no e-collars, clickers, treats) using body language and a slip leash will help you achieve a balanced dog and you will be the Pack Leader! My dog training is with trust and respect, not fear and dominance. I teach you how to use those tools to have a dog with manners and just good old common courtesy, like we appreciate in our human friends as well. My dog training goal is to get you to feel confident in assessing your dog’s state of mind and have the knowledge and/or effective tools for asking your dog to return to that calm state of mind which creates a happy balanced dog, therefore a happy home.

The story of Marley
Marley when she first arrived: very timid, nervous & always cowering.
Marley today: attentive and confident. No more cowering when approached.
Marley is a 2 year old terrier mix who was rescued from a very sad and abusive situation. Unfortunately, the very caring family that rescued her had tried for over a year to help Marley overcome her fear of just about everything. She only has 3 legs and sadly the Vet informed them it was not removed surgically. Everyone, including new owners felt bad for this dog and rightly so. However, those emotions only nurture the fear she already had so even though they gave her a good home and a lot of love, Marley was not able to live life without anxiety, fear and bad habits.
The owners called me to help Marley with her fear, relieving herself in the house as well as eating her feces, cowering and sometimes even snapping at them. I am so grateful the owners cared enough to call me for help.
Everybody's first reaction when they see Marley is “aww, poor dog”, which just makes her think something is wrong, but what? She has no clue she is missing a leg! I took Marley in for a board and train and with my training techniques, things started to change with her in just a matter of days. Marley meets several different dogs every day learning how to socialize with them. She also goes just about everywhere with me meeting different people, which is also part of her rehabilitation process. I have had Marley for over a month now and I am happy to say that she is becoming a balanced, happy little "dog" and progressing more and more every day.
Rehabilitating dogs who are scared and/or been abused takes time and patience. Marley still requires specific training with certain situations that still trigger her anxiety or fear. It is a very slow process and calm energy is required. Unfortunately, the owners have a very busy household that would not enable them to continue with her rehab in this manner. Therefore, I am blessed to have Marley as a permanent addition to my home where she can continue getting the proper training that she needs to become a balanced member of my pack!
Marley is also now "Molly" and below are some recent photos and videos of her progress!
Molly running with Stella, Rocket, and Ellie! It's pretty clear 3 legs are just as fast as four!
