DOG TRAINING In Phoenix, AZ

All packages come with unlimited phone and/or email support!

Dog training is an essential aspect of pet ownership, vital for both the well-being of our furry friends and their human companions. At Cathy's Canines, we understand that whether it's a sprightly puppy or a mature dog, training sessions play a crucial role in their development. Proper training goes beyond simple obedience; it's about understanding and meeting a dog's basic needs, fostering a strong bond between pet and owner, and ensuring a harmonious coexistence.

The Journey from Puppy to Well-Trained Dog

Embarking on the journey of dog training can be both exciting and challenging. Pup training is the first step in this adventure, where young dogs learn to navigate the world with confidence and ease. As they grow, areas of training expand, encompassing everything from basic commands to more advanced skills. A very helpful part of the training process is recognizing each dog's unique personality and learning style, which guides the methods and approaches used.

Basic Manners -

Dogs (6 months +) - $425 - 3 sessions Puppies (under 6 months) $525 - 5 sessions

I come to your home each session as I find dogs are in their true state of mind when in their own environment. This also helps to tailor training to your needs. I work with you, your dog, and other family members to help create a healthy relationship.

I teach you how to become the pack leader and achieve a trusting respectful relationship.

The most important thing you will learn is how to read what state of mind your dog is in, and how to get him/her back to calm. My goal is to get you feeling confident in assessing your dog's state of mind and have the knowledge and/or effective tools for asking your dog to return to a calm state of mind.

We will cover: Reading body language, setting rules and boundaries, walking on a loose leash, and other behavior issues you may have. This also includes leash.

Socials/ Obedience -

Large dogs/Small dogs (see Socials for more info)

This class is for dogs who have gone through my training and designed to achieve obedience in a group setting as well as playtime. We practice exercises that are required to take the Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test.

You will learn:

  • Accepting a friendly stranger

  • Sitting politely for petting

  • Walk on loose leash

  • Walk through crowd, dogs, distractions

  • Sit AND Down on command

  • Come when called

  • Supervised separation

The Philosophy Behind Effective Training

At the core of many contemporary dog training systems, including those employed at Cathy's Canines, lies a commitment to positive reinforcement. These techniques are not only effective but also foster a relationship of trust and mutual respect between the trainer and the dog. From body language and energy as well as employing hand signals, every aspect of our training is designed to be a positive and enriching experience for both dogs and their owners.

I’ve met and use Cesar Milan’s dog training techniques, using dog psychology, for the last 30 years, which is an effective method still today. If you are interested in reading about his techniques, you can purchase any of his books on Amazon

It is all about redirecting the dog’s brain to follow you, the Pack leader, versus the dog thinking it’s on its own and that they are the pack leader. Most dogs do not properly know how to be a Pack leader.

The Fundamentals of Dog Training

Understanding Basic Dog Training Commands

The foundation of any dog training program involves teaching basic dog training commands. These commands are not just about control but about communication. They help your dog understand what is expected of them, making it easier for them to navigate their environment and interact with new people and other pets.

The Role of Behavior Aids in Training

Behavior aids, such as leash training dogs, play a significant role in the training process. They are not just tools but are integral in guiding and shaping a dog's behavior. These aids, when used correctly, can be the difference between a well-trained dog and one that struggles with common behavior problems.

Note: I do not employ behavior aids in my dog training such as e-collars, shock collars, or anti bark deterrent devices. My training skills and methods allow me to create a "Good Dog" without the use of punishment for an animal's bad behaviors.

Addressing Common Dog Behavior Problems

One of the most common dog behavior problems that owners face is a lack of obedience or understanding of basic commands. At Cathy's Canines, we address these issues head-on, using a combination of classical training and modern, science-backed methods. We use dog psychology, not human psychology. Our approach is tailored to each dog, ensuring that the training they receive is effective and long-lasting.

Advanced Training Techniques

Beyond the Basics: Advanced Commands and Skills

As dogs progress in their training, they are introduced to more advanced commands and skills. These are not just for show but serve a large number of practical functions, such as ensuring the safety of the dog and those around them. Advanced training also plays a crucial role in a dog's social development, allowing them to interact safely and confidently in various situations.

The Importance of Consistency and Practice

Effective dog training is not a one-time event but a continuous process. It requires consistent practice and reinforcement, both during training sessions and in everyday life. At Cathy's Canines, we emphasize the importance of integrating training into the dog's daily routine, ensuring that the skills they learn are deeply ingrained and readily accessible.

Customized Training for Dogs of All Ages

Recognizing that dogs of all ages can learn and benefit from training, Cathy's Canines offers programs tailored to every stage of a dog's life. From the exuberance of puppyhood to the more sedate pace of older dogs, our training methods adapt to meet their changing needs and capabilities.

The Reward of a Well-Trained Pet

The end goal of dog training is not just a well-trained pet but a deeper, more fulfilling relationship between dogs and their owners. Training is a journey that, when done right, is rewarding for both the dog and the owner. At Cathy's Canines, we take pride in being a part of this journey, helping owners and their pets build a bond that lasts a lifetime.

Embracing Effective House Training Techniques

House training is a fundamental aspect of puppy training, crucial for establishing good behaviors in your pet's daily life. At Cathy's Canines, we employ methods focusing on consistency and positive reinforcement. Techniques like clicker training are just not effective. Classical conditioning is an effective method of dog training and also fosters a deeper understanding between you and your puppy.

House training is more than just potty training; it's about creating a structured environment where your puppy can learn and thrive. We make the process engaging and rewarding. This approach is a good way to ensure that your puppy develops the habits and behaviors needed for a harmonious home life.

The Benefits of Crate Training

Crate training, often used in conjunction with house training, is another essential component of a well-rounded puppy training program. It's not just about providing a safe space for your puppy; it's about teaching them to find comfort and security in their own space. This type of training aids in potty training, as dogs naturally avoid soiling their sleeping area. Moreover, it's an invaluable tool for preventing destructive behaviors when you're not around to supervise. At Cathy's Canines, we guide you through the process of crate training, ensuring it's a positive experience for your puppy. By integrating crate training into your daily routine, you're not only setting the stage for a well-trained dog but also providing a safe haven for your pet to relax and rejuvenate.

How many training sessions are there?

For puppies, I offer a 5-session package, and for adults (6 months. and older), I offer a 3-session package.  After those sessions, it is up to you to continue with all the tools and knowledge both you and your dog have learned to continue to have a well-behaved dog.  I also offer single sessions, depending on the dog and behavior problem area.

How soon should I start training a puppy?

Generally, 8 weeks – as soon as that puppy walks into your home. There are so many training techniques you can start with, such as rules and boundaries, which are so important in establishing Pack Leader and creating a balanced dog.

Do I need to be involved in their training?

Yes! It is important that you learn how to be Pack Leader and use the techniques I show you to continue to have a happy, well-behaved, and balanced dog.
